Demel is a superb little tapas bar in the Gros area of San Sebastián. It is just around the corner from the Pension Altair, which is one of our favourites. The counter is not groaning with dozens and dozens of different tapas, it has a few chosen examples, yesterday there was an aubergine and goats cheese stack, with fresh basil and a cherry tomato and skewers of garlic fried mushrooms, both delicious and beautifully presented. The tapas menu is extensive and all cooked fresh to order. There is a wide selection of wines, spirits and cocktails and Estella Galicia on draught. It is beautifully appointed, clean and welcoming.
